Split Test!

Since August all of the jazz classes have focused on two goals: flexibility and technique.  I've really focused on everyone having the proper form while stretching so they can get the most out of it.  We started in August holding the splits for 1 minute and then 2 minutes in September and 3 minutes in October and November.  Even though not everyone is flat in their splits everyone has improved greatly and is closer than ever!  I'm proud of their dedication and hard work towards this goal.  We've also spent a good portion of class on technique.  Jazz class isn't all about just learning dances to compete with, all of the girls have come a long way with their leaps, jumps, kicks and turns.  Once the technique is there it makes learning dances so much more fun because then you can really execute all of the moves.  I see the improvement in your dancers and I hope you do too.  And most importantly, they're having fun while learning and becoming more successful at this beautiful art of dance.  Congratulations to those of you have flat splits!  We'll do this again in the spring time - so keep working on them.

Music Suggestions

A couple of you have already given me song/artist suggestions for next years routines and I greatly appreciate it.  The hardest part of my job is finding a good, fun, clean songs to choreograph to.  So if you have any suggestions please post a comment.  If you want that song for your class let me know which class you're in.  Thanks!  Hope you're all having a wonderfully "rainy" summer!

WALKING ON AIR COMPETITION TIME

We are scheduled to perform at 8:35am in the auditorium. That means you must be there at 7:35am!! Yippee!! Sara Larsen I know you're supposed to be to the Conference Center at 9:30am - but we had our rehearsal last night and they don't even let you into the building until your scheduled time of 10:00am - so you only miss out on the standing and waiting around, if you plan on leaving straight from the competition. I hope this works out for everyone because it is now set in stone. See you Saturday, bright and early!!

March 21st Competition Details

Thank you for your support at the dress rehearsal.  It went very smooth!

The Medallion Classic Competition is being held at Salt Lake Community College South Campus (1575 S. State).  You must enter at the South doors off 1700 S. There is another event going on that same day and they will not allow you to enter through any other doors.

Entry fee for adults and children age 6 and above is $6.00.  Children 5 and under are free.

I will meet you and your dancer at the South doors at your call time (1 hour prior to your performance). Don't be late - it's easier to travel to our dressing room as a group so no one gets lost.  I will have the dancers admission tickets.

No food or drink will be allowed in the dressing rooms, only in the cafeteria.

The approximate time for awards is 9:15 p.m.  If the competition is running ahead of schedule during the day they will begin awards earlier.

I am very excited for our first competition!  Thanks again for all your support!

Missing a Tan Jazz Shoe?

It's been found! A tan jazz shoe, size 4 1/2 was found in the parking lot and turned into the Yoga Place a few doors down. They weren't sure who it belonged to but were kind enough to check with our studio. So whoever this shoes belongs to - don't fear! It's well traveled but it's ready to come home. I'll bring it to the dress rehearsal on Saturday.

DRESS REHEARSAL - MARCH 14TH

All jazz students need to attend the dress rehearsal on Saturday March 14th at Alta Canyon Recreation Center (9400 S. 2000 E.) from 1:00-2:30.  All five classes will come "performance ready" and take turns performing/practicing their routines.

The dress rehearsal is held outside of the studio so the dancers can get used to utilizing a big space because all of the competitions take place at H.S. gymnasiums.  This is also an opportune time for the dancers to get used to an audience, so it's not a frightening experience at competition.  Thanks for your support!

If you have any questions about the dress rehearsal you may call 755-1371 or leave a comment on the blog.

I am very excited for our first competition on March 21st at S.L.C.C.  All of the dancers have been working very hard on their dances.  I hope they find it to be a fun and exciting opportunity to perform for their friends and family, get some feedback from the judges and win an award.

Tights & Shoes

Barbara will be ordering tights which you can purchase from the studio.  That way we will all have the same color tights.  As far as the shoes go, if the store gives you an option of light tan vs. dark tan - you want the dark tan.

Please fee free to leave questions or comments on the blog and I will answer them a.s.a.p.

Thanks!
